ABOUT THE PROJECT

The project is using agricultural waste residues to generate electricity for household and industrial use in Nigeria.

The project is also addressing the problem of inadequate electricity in off-grid communities in a way that improves livelihoods, standards and their overall productivity.

Our Impact

The project addresses three sectors of activity which require massive improvements in Nigeria.

Economic growth

Our collaboration with Mobinet will give rural communities using their SIMPAY platform, access to financial services such as verifiable credit referencing & lending. Access to working capital facilitates the creation of new businesses leading to job creation.

Zero Hunger

Generating renewable power from waste rice husk supplied from a 5 kW rice mill developed by Koolmill, will significantly improve the quality of rice produced in rural communities.

Working conditions

Each Pyrochemy installation will create skilled jobs in rural communities. We aim to recruit and train women and youth workers across all our roles, and provide supply chain opportunities that create hundreds of new jobs.

Location

During the project 7,800 REA Surveyed Off-Grid Sites, along with 150 potential client locations, visible on the map of Nigeria, were assessed to confirm their suitability for a Pyrochemy installation.

Our idea

Nigeria is the world’s largest producer of Cassava. We tested residues from this crop waste and found they provide an ideal Pyrochemy feedstock. Using this abundant agricultural waste will improve the livelihoods of rural Nigerian farmers and improve the environment.
